MASTERS TOURNAMENT - WARSZAWA 2010
Karate * Chanbara * MMA
Saturday 11th December - children, juniors; Sunday 12th December - seniors.
KEEP THE HITS REAL AND THE FIGHT SAFE
This are the some of the kicks and punches from XV and XVI Polish Gosoku-ryu Karate Championships.
Since 2007 we have been fighting in glows and helmets. Also since that time there wasn't a single head or face injury.
Now it is possible to really punch or kick without injuring your opponent. We introduce you to our way of point system fighting to show you how make the sport fight both more real and safe.
At our tournaments you actually have to make contact to score a point but as the experience shows it's not unsafe any longer.
This way two major principles of training are equal: the safety (which is very important in modern sport) and effectiveness (crucial in traditional budo).
We have pleasure to show you one of its kind tournament that put together budo tradition and sport.

On Sunday, 14th October in Torino (Italy) took place 16th edition of Coppa Dei Campioni - Master Cup. About twenty years ago shihan Piotrkowicz won two medals in Master Cup, now he was coming with his students team and his son, Michael. Master Cup was organized by shihan Giorgio Bortolin 7th dan. It was international cup for two karate federation: IKA and I-JKA, with over 80 competitors from Europe, India and USA. From Poland came two teams: IKA with shihan Tomasz Piotrkowicz and I-JKA with shihan Robert Sworek. Both teams won medals.
Our competitors won:
Michał Piotrkowicz 2 dan - bronze medal in kumite seniors lightweight,
Bartosz Dawidowski 2 dan - bronze medal in kumite seniors heavyweight,
Adam Gazda 3 dan - IV place in kumite seniors heavyweight.
In kata our competitors didn't compete (Shotokan I-JKA rules are not for us), in team kumite we lost with winner team from Ireland.
We traveled from Warszawa to Torino by car. It was very interesting journey across seven countries, especially across beautiful in late autumn Swiss.
Both teams from Poland well represented our country.

This is extract from the interview with Chuck Norris by "Inside Kung-fu Magazine".
IKF: What would you consider your greatest martial arts moment?
CN: I would have to say that it was the very first tournament I won, which was Takayuki Kubota's All-Star Championships in L.A. I fought Ron Marchini. Winning that trophy was probably one of the greatest thrills I ever had because up to that time I had never won anything - in any area of my life. When I won that, it broke the ice for me and I realized that I could become a champion.
It was the first All-Star Championships of the International Karate Association, which took place in 1964. In following championships Tony Tulleners, student of Grandmaster Kubota defeated Chuck Norris three times. In autumn this year 42nd All-Star Tournament is going to take place in LA.
There are three interesting articles in Publications section.
